Washington, DC – Oxantium is delighted to add EnerTech Environmental, Inc. to its portfolio companies. EnerTech Environmental, Inc. is one of the top 50 leading environmental and green technology companies in North America. The company provides answers to the problems of traditional waste management methods and simultaneously creates renewable energy.
EnerTech’s patented SlurryCarb™ process cleanly and economically converts biosolids (sewage sludge) and other high moisture wastes into a high-grade, renewable fuel, with significant cost savings over alternative methods. The SlurryCarb™ process has received the 2008 Global Frost & Sullivan Green Excellence Award of the Year. In addition, EnerTech was named to the 2009 GoingGreen East 50 Top Private Companies List. Emerging green technology companies were chosen based on demonstration of growth, market opportunity, quality of innovation, and customer traction.
EnerTech was also named by AlwaysOn to the GoingGreen Top 100 for 2007 and 2008. Environmental and green technology companies are chosen as the Top 100 companies for their contributions to accelerating the global movement for a more sustainable environment through innovation, market traction, and game-changing approaches to clean tech.
EnerTech’s first full production facility is coming online soon. Located in Rialto, California, the Rialto Regional Biosolids Processing Facility will convert approximately 883 wet tons per day of biosolids from five municipalities in the Los Angeles region into 167 dry tons per day of renewable fuel. The renewable fuel, called E-Fuel, will be used by a local cement kiln as an alternative to coal. The company built two demonstration facilities. One demonstration facility, built in conjunction with EnerTech's Japanese licensee, Mitsubishi Corporation , processed Municipal Solid Waste, a much more difficult feedstock than biosolids due to its lack of uniformity. The facility operated successfully from 1997 to 2000. The Ube City Facility proved the viability of the SlurryCarb™ process on a commercial scale over an extended period. With operating experience from the Japanese facility, EnerTech engineers have been able to design the 900 ton per day Los Angeles Regional Facility.
EnerTechalso built a 1.6 ton per day Process Development Unit (PDU) located in Atlanta, Georgia, to demonstrate the SlurryCarb™ process. The PDU was designed to procure engineering data from extended operations and produce larger volumes of carbonized product for testing. This fully functional demonstration facility includes all the necessary pumping, heating, depressurizing and dewatering systems necessary to simulate a commercial-scale SlurryCarb™ facility.
Key investors in EnerTech include Citi Sustainable Development Investments (SDI) and Masdar Clean Tech Fund which is a $250m fund made-up of commitments from: Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company, Consensus Business Group, Credit Suisse and Siemens AG. The technology is slated to be part of Masdar City in Abu Dhabi.
